Worst (?) Standup?

Posted in Silly... with tags , , , , on July 29, 2009 by Digger (Not Phelps)

The youtube user who posted this video says it’s a terrible standup routine. I think said user is an idiot. This guy is hilarious. Intentionally hilarious. And the crowd is just full of idiots, too, so it flies right over their heads.

P.S. A lot going on for the Dropout right now. Hope to be posting regularly again very soon.

Tragic Humor???

I’m an aspiring comedian and I’ve written some killer jokes recently about some touchy subjects, like Columbine and Katrina. I want to be edgy and push the envelope, you know? But I don’t want to be, like, offensive. My question is, how long do you have to wait after a big tragedy or whatever before you can start making jokes about it?

Ummm, MFB is it? First of all, this idea you have about “pushing the envelope” without being offensive? It’s, well… It’s silly. Doesn’t really make any sense, does it? I mean, there are already decently successful comedians incorporating child rape and wife-beating in their act. (Ed. note: Not conding such behavior. At least, I hope not.) This is 2004, homey. You can’t “push the envelope” without offending somebody. Get that straight.

As for your question…. I’m not sure that there is a specific waiting period. I think it’s really all about the quality of the joke and your delivery. For example, my Oklahoma City jokes never seem to go over well, but I heard one the other day that cracked me up. Yeah I cringed and acted all uncomfortable because I didn’t want people to think I was some kind of creeper, but I was really laughing pretty hard inside.

But MFB, wanting to joke about Columbine and Katrina? Get outta here you sick $#!%.

P.S. I’ve got a whole routine about Pompeii that’s never garnered any complaints if you wanna borrow it.
