New Star Trek, or old Star Wars

I was chatting this past weekend with some folks about the new Star Trek movie and how enjoyable it is, etc. Specifically, though, I was speaking to how I found it much more similar to the original Star Wars movie than to previous incarnations of Star Trek. This shouldn’t be that surprising to any fan of LOST, who knows how much JJ Abrams and Damon Lindelof love Star Wars.

ANYWAY, I just saw this video online and it seems I’m not the only one who noticed this.

A couple of follow-up items.

One. I saw Star Trek again the other day in an IMAX theater and it was some pretty wicked sights and sounds action in there. That movie is just tons of damn fun. It’s rare that a film can be so much fun that I completely forget to care about flaws as big as some of the ones in Star Trek.

Two. Speaking of LOST, the season 5 finale was fantastic. I’m not handling the prospect of waiting till January/February to see what happens very well. And, as all LOST finales tend to kick such silly amounts of ass, I’ve decided that FinALE must stand for F’in Awesome Lost Episode.
